![]() ![]() ![]() white, i never did either until this past year. just broke it though. it wasn't really a block, more of i just didn't feel my stuff was hitting the high marks of before. i had some serious outside stuff weighing in, so i think that affected me. you really have to be somewhat egocentric to bull your way through this reality. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Now see, ya gotta remember that I've been "convinced" on this board to use logic, right? So...you're writing topics all over the place, cutie: you ain't blocked? IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() white, no, i mean me. i always operated on a very high level of self-confidence, especially with writing. i had some big life situations that shook my tree a bit, my father dying and such. but i'm highstepping it once again. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() You may need to just tweak your perspective a bit... usually writer's block is just the name that we give that certain but unclear reason why we can't seem to write anymore... i have to take a break, and ask myself why i am not happy writing anymore... and more often than not, it's because of something seemingly unrelated to writing even though it is able to block your writing... i don't know if that helps any... sometimes rationality is not what you want, sometimes it's just a hug, some emotional support. and if that is the case... a big hug and some good luck!! michele IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Cheat your way out of it. Write a scene from Romeo and Juliet or The Godfather or Born On The Fourth of July or whatever movie/play/tv show you enjoy exactly as it happened. Eventually, you'll be thinking enough about that scene that your own words should come right out. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() I've never really face writer's block (thank God) - but I do walk around asking myself, "well..what if..." alot. I have a pad and pencil by my bed and I write notes in it a lot - I'm most creative late at night - I'm not worth a damn first thing when I wake up. Tina IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() laser, thinks for the friendly beaming. actually it was because i felt myself drifting into crass commercialism too much, and not writing what drove my flag up. once i switched gears back, everything turbo'd again. can't lose yourself, or you'll never win it big. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() For me writer's block is mostly about not being eager to go into the intense writer's mode that produces the 1st draft: an all-consuming pre-occupation, late nights and caffeine alternating with alcohol. After I've laid that initial piece to rest, I usually forget about it and resume life... until I start coming back to the story on my own. That's when I start the re-write. If you have a lot of interests or take on interests beyond hanging out with friends, then you should be able to keep your creative gears going. Then again, I think I know it all--which I don't--but I'm still in denial. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Okay.. writer's block home remedies. Dickie Barrett of the Mighty Mighty Bosstones said it best:Those are the times when you gotta do something crazy. Let go of the wheel, Fight Club style. Catharsis. You have flooded your engine.... You have to trick yourself, find the primal scream. And then come back to it. That make any sense? IP: Logged |
Lune12 Member |
![]() ![]() ![]() It really does make sense Lansky. It's like you just have to forget the whole idea of writing. Like eat screaming hot cajun food and then work out with a karate master (yea cloudkick!) for a few hours in *total* concentration. Sometimes I go ice skating because I'm not that great at it. It forces me to completely put my mind-to-the-matter so I don't fall on my ass in front of 14 year olds or break my knee caps. Then I might walk the mile or two home all in snowdrifts, or go to the hot tub at my health club and slip into a coma. etc. etc. My other method is shameless procrastination that involves Napster and PGL. Opps. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Actually I just came out of a period of procrastination on a re-write and am in the *mode*. A suggestion from my boss prompted the surge back to the script--which I never thought I'd get energized about again. The re-write is actually based on a sinister real estate devlopment plot that she always wondered about (we work in real estate.) So I'm now in the alpha zone, and have to get back to work in general & the script overhaul when I can. Fantastic thread--but I HAVE TO GET THE HELL BACK TO WRITING!!!!!! IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() I'm trying to break a block right now. I sat down at the computer yesterday and couldn't even type the first word. It was painful. I have the story and message in mind, but the characters aren't coming to me. It's maddening and it's something only another writer could appreciate. I just listened to Stephen King's audio book on writing. He tries to write 2000 words a day. I made a New Year's resolution to write 1000 words a day. I'm already 1000 words behind. IP: Logged |
