I would never (*looking to make sure the boss isn't coming*) post from work!

Well only on my lunch hour of course.

I do normally post while working and just look over my shoulder so that I wouldn't get caught. Most of the time, I just go into work early like I did earlier today. I'm not at work now though. Today is my day off and thought maybe I could get a little writing done. How about you?

I confess, I am too.

But there's an art to it ya know.

I have two computers, both face away from approaching traffic. Then on one I do my work work. And on the other I can play.

Have you tried using your left hand for the mouse?

Not only am I posting from work, but I'm also searching for another job on the web. Am wondering what boss would be more upset about, the fact that I e-mail 8 hours of the day, post messages at PGL 8 hours of the day or search for a better job 8 hours of the day...

oh wait, he's looking over my shoulder right now, I"ll just ask him...

Exactly. I also find it incredibly annoying that he interrupts my phone calls with friends.

Okay gang, here is the funniest part of my day: I literally have not done ANY work since Christmas. I'm desperate for work (there's really only so long one can search eBay.) And I've made it fairly obvious that I"m insanely bored. So I've been wondering at what point will I get fired. They know I just sit in this office, surf the web, check my e-mail, and listen to the radio.

The funny thing is that this morning, my boss' boss comes into my office to tell me how impressed she is with my work, how committed I am to the organization, how pro-active, efficient and productive I am. yada yada yada.

Huh?

Are you stupid???!!!

I haven't done shit in weeks.

Really, I think I could be sitting in this swivel chair and die and no one would even notice. Of course, the eventual smell of my rotting body might alert them...but until then, they would actually think I was doing work back here.

When the bosses boss came in you should have asked her for a raise. You know they want you to look good while surfing ebay and taking personal calls. Personally I think you deserve at least an extra $2500 a year just for being a seat filler. Sounds like your job is very similar to mine. I haven't done anything since Christmas either, well unless scouring ebay for useless junk I don't need counts for doing something.

The good thing about my dull job is that when I apply for a different one, I can add "Internet Evaluator" to my resume...also will add "Maintained communication and formed relationships via information mediums."

Funny, ya'll are. I've been working since Christmas and New Years and yada yada yada. I work on the phones helping retards figure what they should have already known for VoiceStream. I'm getting very bored of this job. In fact, I'm at work now. It is quite early in the morning, but I couldn't sleep. All I'm doing is writing emails and checking Greenlight threads. Bad, huh? I wonder if they will ever notice the time I come in. At this time, VoiceStream is even asleep. Funny, I might say...

Here I was thinking I was the only early morning thread walker sounds like sleepwalker only funnier.

Bosses come in many forms trust me!
I started my day off having to listen to someone flip out and cursing because they
could not find their wallet.
I prayed it took me three minutes to find it.
Then the same person wants to move a clothes dryer with all kinds of shit on the staircase up the flight of stairs to go get it fixed so it can break again.
At 6:30 this morning I am lifting up a dryer onto the back of a pickup in the freezing cold with thin nothing on my legs, with deisal fumes for my first breath of morning air!
So now I choose to start my day over...
Here I am doing a re-write of my day before 7:30!!!!
That is the cool part of each moment being new you can start it over when ever you want!
Hope everyone has a good day today!
Hey, if your not inhaling diesal I bet it is starting out pretty damn good already!
;-)

Well, I guess I'm not the only earlier bird worker. But it has to be between you and me that I'm working this early. Funny, they think that people can't go to work, but how smart are you to not inform the security desk who a 24 hr watch that this place really opens at 5:30 am mountain standard time. Crazy, huh? I know...

Ha it only took me five minutes! I have a meeting at 2pm though so they are making me work this afternoon! The nerve of my employers. Just kidding.

Friedat, I now realize why your job sounds so similar to mine. I read your post on the Colorado thread, I too work for a University. How is Boulder? I was born there, and my parents still live in Longmont. I left because of school and because its cold there. I could only stand 18 years of Colorado winters. Well I need to go check some more threads, or get back to work as I like to call it.

You know what is great? My boss at work is all for me being on the internet. I got him hooked on "Survivor!" last summer and he had me on there every night checking for updates. When the election rolled around there was a never-ending flow of idiots wanting to know who won. ("Recount" was a term that was lost on some of these people.) I even have guys asking me to check on Ebay items for them.

Short of not having to deal with complete morons, this is great!

What University do you work for? I just graduated from CU-Boulder spring, I now fundraise for CU so this time of year (after year-end gifts) is so slow, especially since the campus is empty. oh yeah, and I'm a slacker.

I love Boulder though...you must be shocked to see how this area has grown...

Friedmat-
I think you must be my sister!

I work for California State University at Northridge better known as CSUN. I am a youth orchestra manager, and I do a lot of grant writing and send out a lot of anual appeals.

When I graduated from USC I worked in the development department at the USC School of Music, so I know exactly what you mean.

It is so funny that you mention you are a slacker, because 2 of my friends, who also do nothing at their day jobs, and I claimed that title a long time ago. Everyday I send an email to them saying hey slackers!

I am surprised by how much that area has grown, especially Longmont. If it grows any more, Boulder and Longmont will unite. Are you originally from Colorado. I almost went to CU, but USC was my first choice, and California winters are so much nicer than Colorado winters. Ok enough about me, now get back to work! What are you guys, a bunch of SLACKERS?

I'm also at work and posting my few messages on the boards. Sometimes I don't have lots of time to check at home. My computer also faces away from the door to my office and the door is glass. When my boss walks up I quickly hit the close box because he usually walks around close enough to see if I minimize. He probably wouldn't care too much if I'm having a slow day but I never want to find out. It makes it uncomfortable. Like they think that's all I do. What are you guys occupations?

Dear Slacker Sister,

Yep, grew up in Colorado (Littleton) and am annoyed at how much Boulder has expanded--it's not Boulder anymore. Actually, I'm just really annoyed at traffic.

While the winter here has been hellish (I'm not going to bitch about my heating bill since you're in California and are getting hammered with utilities as I understand) it is absolutely beautiful outside right now--blue skies, sun is shining, in the mid-60's and the flatirons never looked prettier.

Did you enjoy working in the development office? I'm still not sure about this business...Do you play in the orchestra? What instrument?

And for all the other slackers out there: what in the hell did people do at work before the internet and e-mail? Did they just hang out at the watercooler ALL day??!!

Slacker Sister!

I actually grew up in Fort Collins area, have you ever heard of La Porte? We moved there when I was two and I lived there until age 16. When we moved back to Boulder my mother would always give me these warnings about not going to the Pearl Street mall, because there were weird people there. Of course my friends and I always went, and we were usually the weirdest people there. I used to love to go there when they had the Hari Krishna festival (don't know how to spell that). Boulder driving prepared for Los Angeles. I think those Boulder drivers are some of the most agressive in the world, and then you add snow and black ice, and wonder why traffic is so bad.

Working in Development isn't my life's dream, but I have found it to be beneficial. I now can kiss anyone's ass and have them give me money. You know there really is an art to it. Plus knowing how to write grants would have been helpful when going to college, I wouldn't have had so many student loans to pay off now.

I don't play in the orchestra, I just somehow keep getting thrown into music. I actually majored in Anthropology. I somehow always knew a lot of musicians, and I keep getting music related jobs. I think God is trying to tell me something. I contracted orchestras for student films at USC and I still do that part time from time to time, but it is hard to break in to do it full time. That is my goal, but it just takes time.

Well I need to head to meet a friend for lunch.

Good bye all you slackers I will try to sign on after lunch.

I'm an Advance Activations agent for VoiceStream. I answer morons on the phone who should know what they are doing. I sometimes talk to the customer is sometimes a joke to do. Why? Because the customer doesn't know anything about their phones at all. So me, I have to go through every little detail about the phone. Sometimes I decide to stay off the phone for 15 or more minutes after that due to the fact, I might end up killing somebody who calls me next. I have others agent in other departments asking questions of me and so I answer, but often wonder why they were highered. Some I wonder and sometimes I know they wouldn't know the answer and so I don't think of them not smart. But there are calls you just wonder about at times. As you can see, my job is starting to bore me quite a bit. My script is the only thing that I'm waiting for. It is my meal ticket out of this good paying job. I can't complain about the pay though. I do get $10 an hour. That is great.

I try not to do too much posting at work. I'll read at work, but not post. However, I did write one of my s/p's mostly on company time, and guess what!!?? I just got a letter in the mail saying that I am a semi-finalist in a screenwriting contest. Maybe it does pay to slack off at work...lol.

Wow nice to see I am not the only one stuck at work on a Saturday. Today is orchestra rehearsal day, so that means not only am I up way too early on a Saturday, but I now must prepare myself for the arrival of 65 children. Oh joy oh bliss. So I am posting just to keep my sanity.

That's what I do. I do my writing while at work. I like to work when nothing is quite. That's just how I concentrate. I did that my last year in high school in which I hand wrote a 120 page screenplay. Work is the best place to do it. I have to admit. That's why I don't really like taking calls because it throws me off a little with each call. Congrates, ldh. It is good to hear another fellow greenlighter winning contests for writing.

I did alot of the work on my PGL entry while at my last job - as well as most of my reviews and lots of postings. I was bored out of my mind and looking for a new job, though. Now I actually have to WORK while at work, so I haven't gotten to write much, and I think I've reviewed 2 scripts since mid-November, when I got my new job. But it's a much better place to be, and I don't have to feel guilty getting paid to surf the net. I know - I have too much of a conscience. But getting a 40% raise to change jobs and enjoy what you do is definitely worth it!

I would say so, Blondevenus. I would say so. I don't think I'll ever like a job until the job is just writing scripts and/or acting in Hollywood. If you know what I mean? I miss acting a hell of alot and writing I do that every day. So I don't miss writing now, but my acting I surely do. So it doesn't really bother me that I'm online when I shouldn't be. Maybe I'm just doing it to get caught. Who knows.

Yea I write from work. (and that's why I can never reveal my identity because "they'll" finally figure out that I accomplish everything in about 3 days and screw around the rest of the week. The again everyone I work with thinks Project Greenlight is a CiIty Works Program in the Traffic Safety department, so I'm probably safe.)

Things I can do to procrastenate making phone calls:
1. Get more coffee
2. Gossip by water cooler with crazy temp
3. Run to the restroom for the 3rd time this morning
4. Cigarette
5. Make copies of something, anything.
6. Continue praying for a meteorite

Speaking of meteorites, and don't get me wrong I really like Armageddon, particularly the special effects, but wouldn't it have been cool if Bruce Willis couldn't set the nuke off and the earth was destroyed? In all of these meteorite/asteroid/alien invasion movies, the earth always survives. For once, I would love to see a movie end with the destruction of the planet.

Perhaps I'll go to the mailroom now and see if there's any mail to pick up...that should take up some time if I walk real slow...

That would be so spectacular! How come no one fucking does that? It lends itself to real interesting CGI (computer generated images). I think it could be poetic.

In fact, why not make the destruction of the Planet the opening scene? Then our heroes would have to build a spacecraft and escape the earth before it's ultimate destruction. Except, once they were in orbit, they had no idea where in the heck they were going. Could be a mini-series called ZERO-GRAVITY DEBRIS, a cross between LOST IN SPACE and the MARTIAN CHRONICLES.
