People, people, people

I think the majority of the people who have read any part of this realize that no one's mind is going to be changed about this matter. Everyone has got their point across many times now. Don't you think it's time to end this thread?

Seriously, nothing is getting achieved here. Alhorton? 12vob? everyone? let's end this

I agree with you 100% CC. It doesn't look to me New Line did any wrong doing and Al and his friends will forever condem them.

I no longer know how Al and his friends view all this, but for me it's purely fun now. I think it is for at least SOME of them. Take Brain's recent post. First he iquired about my leg then he went on again about New Line steals blah blah blah. I imagine brain wearing a smile on his face as he wrote that.

If this is not fun for Al and some of his friends. And this is a serious matter for them that they firmly believe and will fight to the grave, then that's fun for me too.

I'm 36, and Brian is 21 (so I guess he started on his family early?). If Gale wants to tell you her age she'll do so.

I'm sure Jackie Chan fans will rush to "Rush Hour," but I doubt if anyone else will. It's just the same Kung Fu shit again, which gets gets pretty boring without a good story. But then New Line Cinema doesn't know a good story even when they steal one!

Actually, it was gary with the 18 year old. My mistake. Rush Hour made over 100 Million, so there many many Jackie Chan fans out there. Hey Al, did you read CC's post at the top of this page? What did you think of it?

Cavey, knowing what I know about New Line Cinema, my theory is that they have placed people in PGL to extract good story concepts and turn them into New Line Cinema films. That's so typical of how they operate. So I intend to keep warning writers about New Line Cinema until 2003 (assuming PGL is still operational), when such high-jacked movies would be released. At that point writers who've been ripped off by New Line Cinema can use this thread to air their greviences. At that time, if no PGL writers have been ripped off I'll stop posting on this thread. But 12vob is right, I'm having fun. I assume the other contributors are too, otherwise they wouldn't be here. It's also fun to. . .

I'll believe that when I see it. However, I hope to be long gone from this website by then. This was just like when I got hooked playing Magic: The Gathering. I couldn't stop playing for a while, but eventually grew out of it.

12vob, when you're right you're right, and I'll be the first to admit it. But when you're wrong, as you are about New Line Cinema, I'll also be the first to admit it. I might grow tired of this too, but it's still fun to see the rise you get out of the New Line Cinema groupies whenever someone mentions how much tragedy and pain have been cause New Line Cinema's "Basketball Diaries!"

Since you're near New York, I'd think it would be pretty easy for you to find out the truth about New Line Cinema. No curiosity?

The Basketball Diaries thing has been dead in this thread for a long time. Even when they've been brought up from every now and then it has stayed dead. Been there, done that, you know? It's been months since anything came of that. Catch up Al, catch up!

"Basketball Diaries" is a movie, which can never die. Unfortunately, the same can't be said of the dozens of high school students who have died - killed by other students inspired by that God-awful New Line Cinema movie. New Line Cinema owes the entire country, no the world, a huge apology.

Brian, New Line Cinema doesn't care how many people die because of their God-awful movies, only how many bucks they can make at the box office. The fact that their films aren't making any money this year makes New Line Cinema all the more pathetic.

12vob, it's good to be open-minded, but don't be so open-minded that your brain falls out! <-- NOTE: this was intended to be a philosophical commentary, NOT an insult.

I can not help but to respond to this. Anyone who is persuaded by movies to commit crimes had problems to begin with. No one can take responsibility for their own actions, those teenagers who shoot others, know they shouldn't do that and they still did. They deserve the blame and no one else.
Everyone reacts, "Oh, my sweet kid wouldn't do anything like that, he is soooooooo sweet and innocent, its the film company who is evil", what bullshit. Maybe if teenagers wouldn't be so damn cruel to each other, these kids would have never done what they did.

After all, I have been watching violent films since I can remember and I have never hurt anyone, hell, some people even consider me a pascifist.

CC-

You're wasting your breath on this one. It's why I didn't respond to brian a couple of posts ago. If a school shooting happens this group focuses in on the basketball diaries. I don't know exactly why. I guess since this guy Ken blamed someone else for his shortcomings, this group does the same when a school shooting occurs. It's not the kids fault or the parents it's a movie or a video game.

Thanks for the note in your last post Al

I think you've just captured the essence of this thread. Just substitute "teenager" for "New Line Cinema executive" and "murder" for "theft" and you've nicely summarized the problem. No one at New Line Cinema wants to take responsibility for any amoral behavior. "Hey, we make gory, piss-poor movies because the audience wants them!" "Hey, we steal because other people steal!" "We can't be held responsible!"

12vob, your postings should distinguish between Ken's - I didn't write THINK NO EVIL.

Welcome back, kensobecki, long time no see. I think 12vob has nicely clarified the Ken issue. I'll ask this of anyone. . .

"What's the WORST New Line Cinema movie of all time?"

I can't honestly answer, since I've seen so few of their movies.

Apparently, you missed the point on my message, New Line should NOT be held responsible for shootings or whatever, the teenagers should. It is common sense. Anyone who actually believes that movie studios is the cause of violence should read the bible and find violence happened way back before movies or television. So, obviously, someone who kills others, only they are to blame, not New Line Cinema. Wether or not New Line steals scripts is yet to be proven in a court of law. Until it is proven there, it is slanderous rubbish.

CC- apparently you missed the point in MY message. They are not going to listen to you. They firmly believe that movies (like Basketball Diaries) are to blame. NOT the teenagers and NOT the parents. No other explanation is acceptable.

Al- I haven't seen it, but apparently Town and Country is the worst New Line movie of all time.

Cavey's point is that people should accept responsibility for their own bad actions. Ken's (sobecki) point is that New Line Cinema should also accept responsibility for their own bad actions. In my book, stealing intellectual properties and making movies which inspire kids to kill kids are bad actions which New Line Cinema will never accept responsibility for.

I vote for "Lost In Space."

WHY NEW LINE CINEMA IS THE WORST MOVIE COMPANY IN THE WORLD:

(From a news release of the internet)

Shaye had to weather a more high-profile crisis in the spring of 1998 when De Luca, known in Hollywood for his carousing, was kicked out of a William Morris Agency pre-Oscar party after he was seen engaging in oral sex with a woman. At another studio the incident might have cost De Luca his job.
"Bob saw that I took it seriously," says De Luca. "He knew I didn`t deserve a big lecture about behavior and he knew I`m tougher on myself than anyone else could be, so he gave me a respectful distance to beat myself up."

Many in Hollywood thought Shaye was in no position to preach. For years, rumors have buzzed about Shaye`s drinking. In July 1998, Premiere magazine ran an expose of New Line`s fast-and-loose corporate culture, depicting Shaye as a hard drinker who once passed out at a New Line conference dinner. Shaye has never personally responded to the piece, saying that as a lawyer, he`s "sophisticated enough to know where lawsuits get you, especially involving the First Amendment." Asked about his drinking, he says coolly: "It`s none of your or anybody`s business. I don`t have to justify my personal behavior to the professional community, and I`ve never done anything against the best interests of this company."

IF THE LEADERSHIP IN YOUR ORGANIZATION IS AMORAL, CHANCES ARE PRETTY GOOD THAT YOUR ORGANIZATION WILL ACT IN A CORRUPT MANNER.

Great point Gale! It appears that New Line Cinema is run by a bunch of sleaze-balls, but then that might be commonplace in Hollywood. I'll say the worst New Line Cinema movie is:

"The Island of Dr. Moreau"

It might be interesting to get on rottentomatoes.com and see what the experts say is the worst.

I'll admit to you right now that I DO want that 1000th post. We are closing in on it. I don't think I'll get it. Just a feeling. I think someone is going to bump their way to it.

You're also not the first person to talk about softball that way. A friend of my who I used to play with gave me a brusied bone many years ago when I pitched to him and he hit a line drive into my shin. HOly Shot! I realized just now, as I'm typing this, that it's the same leg that was injured. Hope you're enjoying your weekend. Being mobile again I was able to meet up with some friends in the city.
