I have to get up real early tomorrow to have an MRI done on my right calf area. What will the final results be? Will I end up needing surgery? Stay tuned to find out.

(You can almost cut the suspense I'm creating with a knife)

Good luck 12. I hope it's nothing serious.

My dad just had an MRI on his knee. You have to hold reaaaalllly still or a german guy with a whip comes out and yells at you.

I just came back from my MRI. It's just like in the movies in that they slide you in that big circle machine. Lying still wasn't a big deal at first. I was laying on my back and they gave me headphones so I could listen to Howard Stern. Torwards the end my back started to hurt and staying still started to become difficult. I made through in the end. I see my doctor tomorrow at 4:30 PM (EST) and he will have the results. What will they reveal? You'll have to tune in tomorrow evening to find out.

What are they looking for?

I had one of my knee in January when I banged it up pretty badly in a fall on the ice. My back hurt by the end too, I hear what you are saying.

I think that's a fine excuse to get a massage.

I was playing softball. I was on second base. The ball was hit and I started running to third. Half way there I felt and heard a POP in my right calf. I haven't walked noramlly since (I hobbled for a while now I'm in a soft cast)

It's still VERY tender. A massage would be not currently be in order.

No, I meant a massage for your back which hurt from the MRI, not your calf.

I hope you get good news.

I was voted best at giving back rubs when I worked for Platinum Publishing. The designers used to line up to get them.

Where are you? I am in Annapolis, MD.

Does a professional put in the extra care a friend would?

Um, I think what's best is to find a professional who is a friend.

I am lucky to have that situation, a friend of mine went to massage school, so all is good in our world.

Well the world of massage anyway.

I self taught myself from a book back in college. My friend, Miriam, didn't mind being a genie pig for me while I worked at it.

I'm not surprised, not many people in their right minds would turn down the chance to feel better for free without running the risk of those nasty side effects that crack has.

Only a few more hours left before I'm off to the doctor. He must have the MRI results by now. What will they say. I feel I have more flexibility in my leg now. SO maybe I'm completely cured and staying off the leg was the trick to it. (Sometimes it's nice to have an overabundanced of white blood cells running around in your body)

The results are in. My doctor says medical students hear about these cases and may get to see it maybe 4 or 5 times their entire careers.

It IS a reptured tendion. It goes through the whole leg. You can see the hemogloben and I did have internal bleeding. However, there was zero nerve damage, and no damage to the achiles either. This is VERY good news.

The cast is off (YAH!!!!!) I still can't really walk yet (I get a big pins a needles feeling) I won't be able to drive until sometime next week. I will also need PT. I have to wait to get auto from Oxford again.

That's it. No operation will happen. I'm going to be okay. Except I won't be back before the end of the softball season.

The no surgery part is excellent news.

Make sure you get your PT. I worked for a chiropractic neurologist/physical therapy clinic for five years.

Good PT will help the scar tissues line up evenly. Otherwise you will get chaotic healing and never return to one hundred percent.

Not to be bossy or anything, it's just easy to let that sort of stuff slide.

I should be starting my PT sometime next week. I don't tend to slack on that at all. I will except nothing less then getting back to 100%. In fact, I fear anything other than that.

Good for you, you have a terrific attitude. Make sure they give you a copy of your exercises when you are done so you can keep them up.

Best of luck with your healing process. Did the Dr. say how long til you are back to normal?

Not a specific number (He probably wouldn't want to be held to it) It will be quite a few weeks I'm sure. I'm also a fast healer.

Vitamin c is good for healing. I also think a good mental attitude is helpful.

You are lucky you are a fast healer. Are you just a youngun?

I'll take your advice about the vitamin C. I'm 30, so I'm still pretty young. I also have an overload of whiteblood cells in my body.

Umm, what's up with the elevated white blood cell count?

If you want me to mind my own business, just say so. If you'd prefer to discuss it privately, my email is houseofinsomnia@earthlink.net

I don't mind discussing it here. (I would e-mail you too) I have Cromes disease. It's almost like the opposite of AIDS, except you're born with it and I couldn't pass it on to someone, even during unprotected sex.

What it basically is, I have an overactive immune system. Lots of extra white blood cells. Now you may be thinking, "That sounds like something good to have" Not if those white blood cells work on an area that doesn't need fixing. It can hurt you in that case. When I was 14 I had 4 feet of my intestines removed (1.5 oof the large, 2.5 of the small) The walls of my intestines in those areas were inflammed.

After my operation my Cromes went into remission. They didn't pop up again until about 2 years ago. I don't need surgery this time, I only need to take some antibiotics.

The upswing is that I rarely get sick (about once every 23 months by my estimate) I also have low cholestrol.

Of course having an operation on my leg would have been small potatoes compared to what I've been through already, but I didn't want to have it nonetheless.

12 -

Well's that a relief that you are in control of it. I could not think of one healthy reason to have elevated WBC's. Infection, leukemia, nothing good.

I have an auto-immune disorder myself, Hashimoto's syndrome - my antibodies are destroying my thyroid. Plus I apparantly have some bizzare genetic mutation and have been having some blood clot problems.

It's been quite the balancing act since February trying to get my clotting levels right where they should be.

I appreciate how much of a problem immune systems can give us when they get out of whack. After all, they are pretty darn important.

Thanks for feeling confortable enough to share your medical information with me.

I've started PT! My therapist says he's never treated anyone for my injury before, but he knows how to. Again I'm told how lucky I got because I has no damage to my achiles. I'm looking at 6-8 weeks before I'm well.

The muscle damaged is a a minor muscle. It will no longer be attached to the rest of my body. It will flex, but not move anything.

That IS very good news. I have a friend who snapped her achilles tendon. She was in a full leg cast for 5 weeks and was in various other casts for a total of 3 months... NOT fun.

There was also no nerve damage. So no surgery was needed. I can almost walk normally with the lifts I'm currently wearing.

Are those lifts really theraputic? Sure you don't want to be a just a little taller

That's great news about your leg. Why do they not want to reattach your unattached bits, or is that your choice?
