i've had 6 intelligent people read this screenplay and everyone has groaned at how vapid, boring and trite it is. I'm SHOCKED this is in the Top 10. is this writer a nephew of harvey weinstein? At least "Reality Bites" and other movies exactly like this one had a plot. All this script is about is people bemoaning their shallow "love" lives while getting laid. It has no arc, no discoveries (why does Dan suddenly love Melissa? why does KC become sweet? there are NO REASONS to believe it!) And the characters are all annoying frat-boys and sorority sisters. Worst of all, it's such a Hollywood slacker film, done a million times. It takes no risks. None. The whole concept of this contest was to discover a filmmaker, not regurgitating the same garbage we're forced to see all the time. Shame on everyone, for liking this non-story - you are responsible for the crap that Hollywood puts out. Sorry to be so angry, but I am. A lot of writers put their hearts in much better screenplays and this is what rises to the top?! I sincerely hope there is something in the Top 10 with more substance than this.

i think this post is in bad taste. sorry you didnt make the top 10 but maybe his script made more sense than yours.

i read your script and i read this one. If you want to go to the reviewer forum and fine the top 30 discussion thread you will see how i felt about your script. I am glad that you and your 6 friends are the ones who decide what sucks and what doesnt. I thought the writer of this script was going for exactly what he wanted and that was a typical comedy about relationships.

your script on the other hand, left me feeling out in the cold, i thought it was pointless.

the fact that you called this screenplay "typical" says everything. i just didnt like it and didn't get why everyone else did. i'm very confused. and also, if people can be so ebullient in their praise of this, why can't they be just as critical? and lastly, thank you for taking the time to read my script. i will write a more 'typical' one next time with a point as powerful as people enjoy getting laid.

Oh please, after your little tirade about how you and your panel of ebert's hated this script, why do you care what one person thinks...

and yes the fact that i decided that it was in bad taste means nothing, but you know what, anyone who comes here and post their thoughts on a script after they got cut from the same pool and pretty much rags on the author has no tact. it would have been less rude if you gave your opinion before hand rather than sounding bitter now.

this statement tells whoever reading this all they need to know about your purpose.... "i've had 6 intelligent people read",...... yeah and half the people in the nation voted for George W.... he is still a stupid idiot....

Steamham,

I read your script also. I thought it was really good, funny... I actually don't think I ever posted a review for you. I'll try to do that on your thread as soon as I post for a few others I owe... "vegibles" LOL... That was the perfect comedic use of accents... good job really...

I haven't read "Avenue A" yet... but every script I'm sure has some redeeming qualities... It was chosen based on a professional read and I do respect that. That doesn't mean it's better or worse than any other, just more suited to the tastes of the reader...

Cheer up and send out some queries... I think your script could really sell.

first of all, i'd like to apologize to the writer of 'avenue a.' i DID NOT write this original negative post - it was written by my old roommate, who happens to know my password and is quite a smartass. obviously, he hated that script, which is his perogative & decided to rag on it under my name, which is certainly not his perogative. (This, however, is actually me writing this post, the author of 'turning green.') truthfully, while i was not a big fan of 'avenue a' either, i would NEVER discourage a fellow writer, especially in a public forum or in that manner. it would only open my own work up to similar criticism.

secondly, i wish the writer (in fact, all of the writers in this contest) the best of luck in making their movie. It is a tough, sometimes heartbreaking contest and i hope many of us have success.

Personally, I have already met some people interested in my script and am perfectly happy and excited with my progress. Also, I've really enjoyed learning so much about the industry while meeting many nice people who have both helped and encouraged me. Therefore, i have no reason to be bitter about not winning. Good luck, 'avenue a', and enjoy your success! peace, quetee (and i must comment that you must be slightly insane for not falling head over heels in love with my script, LOL!)

Congratulations to both "Avenue A" and "Turning Green." Both solid scripts. As for Steamham's roommate, quite tasteless. Not only did your criticism of "Avenue A" reek of bitterness, but the "critic" revels in his own pseudointelligence. I mean, come on, EBULLIENCE??!! I suppose you believe that the a command of vocabulary lends authority to your argument. Wrong. It merely underscores the transparency of your critique. You attempt to bully the rest of us into thinking that there is merit to your phillipic (see I can do it too), simply because we cannot understand it. Instead, it exposes you as a world class jackass.

i'm confused by your comments. (and your spelling.) if you don't care, why did you take the time to write a post?

The problem I had with the script is that I am what you would call "Chronologically mature" and have a teenager. In this day and age when aids and other STD's are out of control, it is troubling to think that "one night stands" are considered funny. The concept of five young people finding love is fine, but I would have preferred to have seen more "responsible" attitudes.
Please understand that I am not questioning your place in the Top 10 - it's just that as a parent, I couldn't get past the fact that in just a few years time one of those character's may be one of my children. I would hope that would not be the case.
I would love to see revisions, and for the record, responsible behavior can be comic - ie. I loved the fact that Melissa upon returning Dan's personal effects, kept the condoms.

I can't agree with you more. It's amazing how this made it to the top 10. I feel bad for this guy because his video actually makes the movie appear that much more stupid. By the way, I would really be curious to hear your opinion on my screenplay ("Goop"). It's in the process of being sold.

i heard 'goop' was really good. i've learned one very important thing in this greenlight thing, and that is, judging movies is highly subjective. for me, my screenplay is being bid for like crazy and i didn't even make the top 10. in fact, i have the feeling that a few films will be made that blow away the winning film. so, congratulations, goop writer. i want to read your script next. feel free to e-mail me at michaelaimette@aol.com and we can discuss.

I doubt goop is being sold if you're actively calling other scripts "stupid" and then asking people to read your script in the same breath.

congrats on the bidding. i am pretty sure there will be tons of scripts that are bought and will no doubt look better than the greenlight movie, especially if you are looking at a 1 million dollar movie compared to a 30 million dollar pic.

what did you do, send out query or did they come to you.
