Spie, who has been one of my special friends since this contest began, was in a car accident this weekend and is in a coma. I feel really devistated and disoriented tonight.

She has two small children (2 and 4, I believe).

Do any others of you that post here know her?

That is so damned awful. I don't know her but my feelings go out to her family and children.

Godspeed her swift recovery.

I just lost a friend of mine last week to a hit and run driver. He was run off the road on his Harley. Him and his wife were supposed to visit me this summer...

My prayers and thoughts are with his wife and now with spie123 and her family...

Yeah, she's a real sweetheart. It's such a shame. I'm just wobbly right now.

I wish I could whisper something in her ear right now.

Well, spie's still hanging in there, but according to Andromeda in the Greenlight Forum, today was not a great day for her. I believe she had another brain hemorrhage.

All we can do is wait.

Andromeda is getting a care package together of toys and such for spie's kids. If you want to contribute let me know, and I'll e-mail you Andromeda's address.

I have a good feeling about her. She's pretty strong, it seems.

In case you haven't heard, spie woke up. It's a miracle.

Here's what Andromeda said in another forum"

At 3:30am, night before last, Spie's eyes opened. Before long, she was talking, making jokes (some damn funny ones, too ) and interacting like nothing had ever happened.

I received the e-mail about her condition early yesterday morning, but was asked to keep it quiet until I was told otherwise.

Last night, the nurses allowed Shawnette's family to smuggle a cell phone in her room, and she was actually able to call me. I can't remember a time when I've ever laughed and cried so much in the couse of a single conversation.

Her road to full recovery will be a very long one. She is facing at least another week in ICU, and another month in the hospital, after that. She will need multiple surgeries, a lot of physical therapy, etc. It won't be easy, but she is determined.

She wants everyone to know how much she appreciates the support you've shown her, and her kids. If money had been collected for any other reason, she'd insist it be sent back, but doing something to make her kids happy, during such a difficult time, is something she not only appreciates, but is something for which she can't thank everyone enough.

Of course, she'll be able to tell you all that herself, very soon.

I feel the ole Bittrich returning. I was in a funk for a while.

Time for some mischief perhaps...
