Stacy,

That's a great little post and a great idea about talking about the day with your kid. I've got a 17 month old and though I cherish every step, I can't wait to fast forward so I can have conversations like that with her. But if I were to ask her now what was great about her day, her answer would probably be something like "da-da, mommy, baby, poopoo, mommy."

What was great about today? I am making a movie. And when things get annoying (budget, script rewrites) I just remember that.

Ho hum, making a movie. Big deal.

I got to take my 4 year old girl to MacDonald's today, and answer the question "Why?" 57 times.

"Why can't I open my toy, Daddy?"

"Because I want you to concentrate on eating."

"Why?"

"Because eating is good for you."

"Why?"

"Because all the food goes in your stomach and gives you energy, so we can go to the play ground."

"Why?"

"Wha? Why does it give you energy? Or why do we go to the playground?"

"Why?"

And here's where you become your own father:

"Because I said so."

bittrich,

That's why I am weary of complaining about the budget or rewrites because hell, I am making a movie and in the end, that's all I care about. But it's amazing how fast you forget about that when you see what could happen to my script if we try to cut the proposed budget.

I can't wait for the "because I said so and as long as you live under my roof, you will follow my rules" B.S.

Any luck with your off-Broadway play?

LOL, I bet somedays you come home from making your movie, saying the same thing.

Hell, I do, and that's just after an outing shopping at Costco.

hey pete,

i read in another thread that you're working on re-writes . . . are they gruesome and painful? were they re-writes you had in mind anyway?

i'm curious as to how difficult it is to retain your artistic integrity when you're new to the biz and dealing with a lot of pressure.

i think human nature (especially being the "new" guy) is to try and get along with everyone and be agreeable. yet being this way isn't always the best way to push/get across our artistic agenda. how do you find it to be?

looking forward to hearing what you have to say ...

Stacy,

You know what was great about today? My brother had a baby boy. Actually, his wife did, but this baby boy is now my 4th nephew to go along with my 3 nieces. Could a day be any better?
