if pete keeps in the other son's death. maybe the rabbi talks to his wife and he decides to take time away from his duties.

i would think anyone who lost two sons so close together would question their fate and question if the life they have choosen is the correct one. maybe the rabbi will just feel like an ordinary man and not close to god.

qt - hi. I disagree. People with very strong faith (who don't believe that God will protect them from anything bad happening, which COULD happen to anyone) tend to keep their faith during hard times, saying or thinking that God is testing their faith, etc.

It is those who believe that God will protect them and their loved ones from harm just because they love God and God loves them back that may end up disowning God, or turning away from Him/Her. Usually, men and women of the cloth do not do this.

Think of a billiard table. when a ball hits another ball, the path is deflected, but the trajectory is still based on the original path.

People have inertia, too. If they spend thirty years forming a religious belief, they should tend to view events within the framework of that belief, not as invalidating that belief. Especially if the guy is a rabbi.
www.beliefnet.org has a discussion board on the Jewish concept of afterlife. "Olam Habah" is a concept that refers to the story of the Garden of Eden in the Book of Genesis. I Will try to look up more, but maybe someone isfamiliar with the term?

Again, I disagree. I know God is a real Entity. But He/She took away my father, whom, I confess, I loved more than my mother. I was devastated, but my Love for God continues. I didn't question it. But then again, God gave me visions, so I knew he was going to die beforehand, but I pushed them aside because I didn't want to believe it. I've been disappointed and devastated many other times.

These trials were to benefit me in that I developed the attitude that I SHOULD NOT EXPECT anything, but rather ACCEPT what happens as best I can. I am BETTER for them.

____________

doesn't want to pull up.

Article dated May 1, 2001, but the Concours on Rodeo Drive will be held June 17 from 10 am to 5 pm. Mornings are probably best, as it will be hot in the late afternoon.

A benefit for Amie Karen Cancer Fund (AKCF).

A chance to walk around and bump into real celebrities. Pam Anderson always shows up in a new outfit. If you like Jay Leno, be there.

______________

The reference came up because Jerry Bruckheimer has done movies about car racing, including Days of Thunder with Tom Cruise, and Gone in 60 Seconds with Nic Cage.

I think he will keep doing car pictures because he likes them. The trick is to find the right one that will hit it big.

I thought Stallone and CART would do it. Then I saw the movie. From one minute into the movie, the audience hated the lead. He was a whiney, snotty brat who wouldn't last ten minutes in a real racing program. And the human part only got worse.

Only good part/breakthrough was Christian de la Fuente, a young actor on "Family law" who played the driver Stallone replaced on the team. He should have been the star of the movie and Stallone his co-driver. Wouldn't have had the stupid race through streets of Chicago. But audience would have cheered for him at the end.

Also, the way Stallone helped his teammate win the race was pathetic. So the audience left theatre on a big Low, not a big High.

I can do better. Ferrari Challenge Cup allows real people to drive race cars, not whiny brats with contracts. Jerry, are you listening?

Here is one perspective on the proper attitude for Christians toward other religions.
http://www.probe.org/docs/non-xrel.html

At one point, Pete said that some people believed that non-christians couldn't get to heaven unless they were converted, and shouldn't he be able to write about them in a screenplay? I think if you read some of "their" literature, it becomes obvious why it is offensive.

(Page 5) We must acknowledge, however, that in no other religion is any saving truth to be found... Salvation is not something we achieve, it is something we receive.

This is not to say there are no truths at all in non-Christian religions. There are certainly moral and ethical truths...

As followers of Jesus Christ, what should be our attitude toward non-Christian religions and those who embrace them?"

The fallacy here, of course, is thinking that Christianity has a "truth" at its core, which it does not. And all assumptions drawn on that basis are, of course, invalid as well.

Earlier, we had a discussion about copyright and posting copyrighted materials on websites without obtaining permission from the copyright owners.

A decision on Monday was Tasini V. New York Times:
www.cnn.com/200...W/06/25/scotus.copyright/index.html

which deals with newspapers having to pay freelance columinsts when they post columns on newspaper websites without paying the royalties.

Link doesn't come up. I'll post another one when I find the decision.
