Upload Your Screenplay

In order to enter the greenlight Contest, you will have to upload your screenplay to us using our handy upload form. "Sole Contestants" and "Team Captains" are responsible for the actual "uploading" of the screenplay (see How to Participate for more information.)

Here’s how it works: you will upload your screenplay to us in a PDF file (Adobe® Portable Document Format), which can be no larger than 250KB.

Converting Your Screenplay to PDF

The easiest way to create a PDF is to use the Create Adobe® PDF Online service that the fine folks at Adobe® provide to the public. You go to the site, sign-up for a free trial login, and upload your screenplay. They convert your file to a PDF, and send it back to you. See the Create Adobe® PDF Online site for more specific and up-to-date information

As of this writing, you can use the Create Adobe® PDF Online service for free three times, and if that isn’t enough, you can buy a month of unlimited conversions for about ten bucks. (Again, see the Create Adobe® PDF Online site for more specific and up-to-date information.)

There are restrictions on the type and size of file that the Create Adobe® PDF Online service will convert, so be sure to read the File Types section on their introduction page. All screenplay writing and word processing files that we reviewed were able to export an RTF (rich text format) file, which the Create Adobe® PDF Online service supports nicely.

Uploading Your Screenplay to greenlight

1.   Login to the greenlight site.
2. Go to the Submission Status Page.
3. If you haven’t already done so, complete the Contest Application.
4. From the Submission Status Page, click on Screenplay Upload.
5. On the Screenplay Upload page, click on the Browse button and select your PDF file (remember, the file cannot be larger than 250KB in size.)
6. Click on the Upload button and wait a moment while the file is transferred.
7. Verify that your file was uploaded correctly by clicking on the View link. Make sure to review every page in the document.
8. If the file was not uploaded correctly, repeat steps 6 and 7.
9. To complete your upload, click on Save. Please Note: Once you click on Save, you will not be able to upload your screenplay again, so make sure it’s right!
10. PLEASE NOTE: The process of converting a screenplay file into an Adobe®
PDF file may result in the "shrinkage" or "growth" of the screenplay in page length. After converting your screenplay into a PDF file,
please check to make certain that the converted version satisfies the 90-130 page length requirements (see the Official Rules for details on
minimum and maximum page lengths). If PDF conversion "shrinkage" or "growth" problems persist, greenlight will not disqualify Submissions that suffer from such "shrinkage" or "growth" if you can later demonstrate to our
satisfaction that (a) the Submission in its original industry-standard
format meets the 90-130 page requirement, and (b) any resulting page loss or
growth is due solely to the PDF conversion process, as determined by
greenlight.
