Copyright Your Screenplay
Registering with the WGA and
the U.S. Copyright Office.
For your protection, project greenlight
REQUIRES that you have either already registered your screenplay
with or have at least begun the process of registration with BOTH
the U.S.
Copyright Office and the Writer's
Guild of America before you enter the Contest. The process is
very simple, just click on their respective links to see how.
Why should you?
First, because it's a requirement of your participation in the Contest.
Second, if you win, you will need to be able to provide us with
your submission registration number for both the U.S. Copyright
Office and the Writer's Guild. Finally, these organizations represent
the best lines of defense for your work. Ask any screenwriter, registration
is as essential in writing a screenplay as courier font. While registration
can't prevent someone from plagiarizing your work, it can provide
you with certain legal advantages in the event there's ever a dispute
over your work. So, please take the time to register your screenplay
now - it's not just a good idea, it's project greenlight
law.
