EGN's vision:
A Web-enabled application that matches executives with jobs offered by recruiters and vice-versa, providing anonymity for all parties

How TechEmpower brought it to life:

TechEmpower built a sophisticated Web-enabled application with a professional, clean, intuitive interface for executives and recruiters. The site also streamlines the day-to-day responsibilities of EGN staff.

For users, EGN's main asset is anonymity. Unlike Monster.com or another resume and job hosting site, EGN uses a double blind approach to match executives to jobs and recruiters to executives.

On the EGN site, executives fill out an executive profile, which is similar to a resume but does not include enough detail to reveal their identities. Only this profile is visible to recruiters. Executives also may upload a copy of their actual resume to the EGN server. EGN staff can perform keyword searches on all resumes on file, to find executives who meet specific criteria that do not appear on their profile. A scheduler keeps track of the last time an executive logged on to his or her account. Anyone who fails to log on within 90 days is sent an e-mail inquiring about the lack of activity.

Recruiters may post jobs and search for potential job candidates based on criteria similar to those contained in the executive profile. When recruiters find a promising candidate, the profile is e-mailed to the recruiter. To facilitate billing, the system keeps track of each time a recruiter searches the database for executive profiles.

A key part of the project was devoted to developing the administration section of the site. It supports EGN staff members, who may search profiles, resumes, recruiters, and jobs, as well as generate various types of reports for invoicing purposes.

The technology:

The EGN site is built on the Gemini framework for Java Servlet/Java Server Pages based applications. We paired these Java technologies with Microsoft SQL Server to balance performance and value.

EGN's site went live in mid-2001. The company is highly optimistic that as its online services generate more and more attention, its executive profile database will expand. Once EGN has generated enough revenue from the site, the company plans a "second generation build" of its site that will include many new features and sections.

"You did a great job. I am very pleased with how this has all come out. What a great site!"
