TechEmpower Releases Forge - An Integrated Content Management System
El Segundo, CA, September 1, 2001 - TechEmpower today announced the release of Forge, its integrated content management system. Forge is designed for non-technical users to easily control and edit their Web sites without knowledge of HTML, costly IT staff, or the need to ask their vendor to make changes.
Most company Web sites contain collections of news articles, press releases, job listings, white papers, and other content that changes regularly and should be updated frequently. Forge makes it easy to add, remove and edit this content without knowledge of HTML or special editing tools. Forge is differentiated from many other costly Content Management Systems (CMS) in that it does not lock you in to a particular way of handling content.
Dr. Tony Karrer, CEO/CTO of TechEmpower, explains "We built Forge to meet a particular recurring client need. Most of our clients need to quickly update certain portions of their Web site. At the same time, we are building out very complex, dynamic functionality into the system - and we needed to protect the system from updates by less technical users. This is what content management systems were designed for. However, most content management systems either were difficult to integrate into our delivery environment or were priced way too high for the needs of our client. Thus, we built Forge to meet our clients needs without breaking the bank."
Forge is built on top of TechEmpower's Gemini Java infrastructure. Karrer says, "Because of this, we know the foundation is scalable, secure, reliable and highly extensible. Gemini has been through the battles on very large systems." Leveraging TechEmpower's Gemini Java framework, Forge is an integrated content management system that can work seamlessly as part of a web solution. It is far less expensive than competing products and still offers the same primary advantage: easy control of site content. Through Forge's Web-based administration interfaces, virtually anyone who can navigate the Web can manage their company's content. With a click of the mouse, the latest versions of the HTML pages containing the Press Releases or Job Listings (or any other kind of content) for a Web site can be automatically generated, ready to be published live.
Forge has a broad potential reach and TechEmpower has designed it to run on many different systems. It works with any application server including BEA's WebLogic, IBM's WebSphere, iPlanet, Resin, Enhydra, Jrun and others. It also works with many databases including SQL Server and Access. It runs across most versions of browsers and on Mac, PC, Linux and most UNIX versions.
"We are excited about the release of this version because it represents an expanding role for our infrastructures and incorporates our best practices for content management," added Karrer. "Because of the Gemini architecture and our experience in web development, we feel that this is well positioned both technically and from a marketplace needs perspective. I would expect to see a series of announcements coming from TechEmpower as we continue to roll-out solutions on top of Gemini."
