TechEmpower releases Gemini Internet Application Infrastructure
El Segundo, CA, February 26, 2001 - TechEmpower today announced the release of Gemini v1.1, its flagship Internet application infrastructure that has been used as the core of several high-volume, mission critical sites.
TechEmpower's "Gemini" is a reusable Java infrastructure for Internet applications. Gemini provides a framework for building any Java-based web application and works with any application server including BEA's WebLogic, IBM's WebSphere, iPlanet, Resin, Enhydra, Jrun and others. It also works with any database including Oracle, SQL Server, Sybase, Informix, Access and others.
This framework has been built up over two years of developing secure, extensible, reliable, and scalable Internet applications for Fortune 500 clients and e-business start-ups. "We often work with clients over the course of several years and have seen these applications grow, change, and scale to very large user populations," said Dr. Tony Karrer, CEO/CTO of TechEmpower. He added, "It is critical to start with the right architecture to have long-term success." The Gemini application eliminates any issues with the core infrastructure, allowing TechEmpower's technical specialists to focus on building the domain specific logic that is required for each particular application. The result is an estimated 20% reduction in development time on most projects, which translates into significant cost savings for clients.
The heart of Gemini is something that Sun refers to as a "Model 2" application, a convenience term for Java-based applications that employ a "model-view-controller" (MVC) design. The primary advantages of this design are based on both the clear separation of concerns between each of the tiers and the battle-hardened nature of the code. Ultimately this means:
- Delivery using voice, mobile devices, web pages, even print;
- Reusable code;
- Clean separation of visual design for graphic designers and source code for programmers;
- Fewer problems during initial roll-out; and
- Significant long-term cost savings.
"We are excited about the release of this version because it represents a lot of our best practice and best thinking", added Karrer. "This also positions us well to begin to capitalize on other capabilities, especially in e-Learning applications, digital asset management, application monitoring, product information databases, and content management. Expect to see a series of announcements coming from us in terms of technology and partnerships because of the leverage we have with this architecture."
Founded in 1997 and based in El Segundo, California near Los Angeles International Airport, TechEmpower designs and builds custom software, database, web, and training applications for a wide range of clients, including Digital Insight, eharmony.com, Universal Music, Hewlett Packard, IBM, Microsoft, and Xerox Corporation.
