Additional FAQs

  1. Am I still eligible to participate in the Contest if I have previously submitted my screenplay to another internet site, or to an agent, or another third party to consider, so long as I have not accepted any third party's offer on the screenplay or agreed to other restrictions on the screenplay?

  2. If I'm a US citizen but I'm currently living in a foreign country, can I still become a Contestant?

  3. If I just want to submit my screenplay, but don't want to direct and don't want to or am unable to sign a Team member on to direct, can I still win the Contest? What if I don't want to be, or don't have, a Creative Producer?

  4. I'm a legal resident of a U.S. territory, like Puerto Rico or Guam. Can I participate?

  5. Your "industry standard format" definition differs from some others I've seen. Will my screenplay be disqualified if I used another "industry standard," e.g., if the margins are set according to WGA standards (3 inches) instead of your industry standard margins (2.5 inches)?

  6. The Official Rules say that my name shouldn't be on my screenplay, but I accidentally left my name on or in my screenplay. Will I be disqualified? If I review a screenplay with a name on it, should I give it a lower rating because of that?

  7. I know Greenlight said that screenplays would not be disqualified solely because they include a Contestant's name. Does that mean if I included my name on my screenplay I still have to correct the error, or is it okay to just leave it as I submitted it? Even if I don't have to, is there any way I can correct the name thing if I want to?

  8. When I converted my screenplay to Adobe PDF, the screenplay added pages, or lost pages, or acquired formatting errors that I don't have in the original version. Will I be disqualified because of this, if these changes ended up making the PDF version non-compliant with the requirements set forth in the Official Rules?

  9. My handle contains all or part of my real name. Should I change it? Can I change it? Will I be disqualified for this?

  10. Can my screenplay be shorter than 90 pages? Can it be longer than 130 pages?

  11. I have registered as a contestant twice, using different handles, email addresses, and/or other information. Is there a problem with that?

  12. I'm confused about what happens to the copyright in my screenplay. If I enter my screenplay in the Contest, am I surrendering ownership in my screenplay's copyright to Greenlight or anyone else? What happens if I win? What if I make it to the Top 250 or later rounds, but don't win the Grand Prize?

  13. I have a great idea but I don't know how to write a screenplay. Can I just send you my idea? Can I hook up with someone on the message boards to form a Team?

  14. I got a screenplay to review that seriously fails to comply with the format requirements (e.g., the submission is not a screenplay but instead a book or a treatment; there's no dialogue; it's only 10 pages long; etc). What should I do?

  15. How do I withdraw from the Contest?

  16. I'm trying to register my screenplay with the Copyright Office. What form should I use?

  17. I'm trying to register my screenplay with the Writer's Guild. Should I use the Writer's Guild West or Writer's Guild East?
