The Progress of Pete Jones and the Making of "Stolen Summer"
After the scrupulous process of narrowing down 7,000 screenplays to one, Pete Jones was named the winner The Project Greenlight Contest for his screenplay, "Stolen Summer" on March 1, 2001. Pete's dream of becoming a director turned into a reality overnight, but there was much work to be done.
The day after winning The Project Greenlight Contest, Pete began pre-production at LivePlanet along side Executive Producer Chris Moore, Co-Producer Jeff Balis, and newly hired Line Producer Pat Peach. They discussed issues ranging from production budgets to casting, shooting locations, script notes, and crew hires. In successive weeks, "Stolen Summer" attained an impressive cast of established actors, namely: Aidan Quinn, Kevin Pollack, Bonnie Hunt, Brian Dennehy, Eddie Kaye Thomas, and newcomers Adiel Stein and Michael Weinberg, as well as an experienced crew.
After a month of stressful pre-production in Los Angeles, the "Stolen Summer" crew moved to Chicago, IL to begin production. Shooting began May 18, 2001 in Pete's hometown with a crew of over 80 people on a tight million-dollar budget. Pete's winning screenplay was finally beginning to take the shape of a full-length feature film. Production concluded June 21, 2001, and the crew celebrated with a well-deserved wrap party at Lincoln Station in Chicago.
Yet, "Stolen Summer" is still far from completion. From now until "Stolen Summer" is released in theaters, Pete will be hard at work during post-production in the editing room. Miramax has set a tentative release date for "Stolen Summer" to be in theaters March 2002. And, the premiere episode of the Project Greenlight HBO series should be on HBO in Winter 2001.
