I've been writing as long as I can remember (it's been only a few years since I started writing in English though) but I find writing a screenplay extremely difficult. I write stories and poems, etc. in my spare time and never needed to be taught how to write them. BUT, I'm ashamed to admit I have absolutely no clue where and how to start when it comes to writing a screenplay. So I would like to ask you guys: how did you first start writing a screenplay and do you do other forms of writings, such as novels, poetries, technical writings or whatever for a living or in your spare time? And where did you learn how to write a screenplay? Did any of you go to a school to learn about script writing? IP: Logged |

Like you I have been writing for a very long time. I started wanting to write novels but realized after a while that my love was for movies. I hadn't a clue where to start so I purchased a book called "Successful Scriptwriting" which I don't suggest anymore because it is outdated. Just find a new screenwriting book and you are good to go. Download some (screenplays) off the internet for reference. IP: Logged |

I took courses in college related to script writing and other forms of writing as well, and found that I enjoyed writing scripts more than novels and short stories. There are numerous books out there to aid you in the proper techniques of writing a screenplay. Also, having a copy of a screenplay (you can download them from the internet) from a movie that you have seen is an excellent reference. IP: Logged |

I've always been a writer. It's in my blood. Some of my famous writing relatives are Thomas Paine and Winifred Holtby (she has a literary prize named after her - in England, I think). My mother, a kindergarten teacher, taught me to read and write a long time before I ever went to kindergarten. I used to get into trouble at school because I could read the flash cards faster than anyone else. So they'd stick me in the corner with a book I'd bring from home. The first whole book I read was "A Week On the Concord and Merrimac Rivers" by Henry David Thoreau. I must have been about six years old at the time. I think I got really serious about being a writer around that time. My father was a high school English teacher and I used to correct his Composition papers for him (he hated correcting papers). I didn't know that I was interested in or serious about screenwriting until the second time in my life that I attended a university. The first time I went to college, I dropped out after a drunk driver put me in a wheelchair. I was told I would never walk again. But the doctors were wrong. Which proves that it's never too late to try to make a dream come true. I discovered that I loved the craft of screenwriting. And it's only been in the last two years that I've also discovered that I love writing novels as well. So my screenplay entered in this contest also has a novel to go along with it (if this Los Angeles girl could get a New York literary agent to take an interest, that is). My story is called, "HER LITTLE GIRL," and I would so much appreciate any feedback on it. It is a suspense/psychological thriller with two female leads. P.S. I think my distant cousin Winifred was also Virginia Woolf's lover. IP: Logged |

I was influenced by my father and my brother to write and draw which both of them did real well. At ten years old I wrote my first horror story (which wasn't even scary at all) and I stopped a few years after that. At twelve is when I started again writing my first play and from then on I've been writing and trying my hand at different types of stories. I found my niche in screenwriting and I've been perfecting my craft ever since Recently, I even had one of my friends read my horror stories and they said it scared them to death! I just hope to be able to scare & captivate millions with my stories soon. IP: Logged |
