My money is on Patrick Ewing (formerly of my beloved Knicks) as the Angel of Death in The Exorcist III. I'm sure I'll think of a worst one a minute from now. Who can you think of?

Oh yeah, putting the "Goya, oh Boya" lady in there was pretty bad as well.

How about worst "original" casting? For instance... Did you know FRANK SINATRA (!) was originally cast to play Dirty Harry?? Could you just imagine ol' blue eyes tryin' to say "Do you feel lucky, punk??" I'd expect him to snap his fingers and make a dang SONG out of it!

My vote would have to be for the annoying Lisa Brenner, who was Heath Ledger's bride in the Patriot. She was cute, but unbelievably terrible. So was the movie, of course. I just remember cheering when the redcoats burned down the church with her in it. Sick, but it was a frustrating movie.

Keanu in Dracula. Never in my life have I ever seen anything so blatantly bad. Oh, except for Godfather III. The whole cast.

Other than that, miscasts are a fact of hollywood. There are too many to name.

Micheal Keaton in Batman?????????
Did i missunderstand this post. BAD CASTING RIGHT??
Keaton was the best batman, hated that sappy crybaby kilmer played, keaton was the closest to the real batman, not that tv show wimpy crap. Batman kicked ass and didn't give a S**T.

My second-favorite movie of the 'eighties, BRAZIL, has some of the best casting I can recall (Pryce, Palin, De Niro, Helmond, Ian Holm, Hoskins) ...

and the worst: Kim Griest.

How about Molly Ringwald in, well in anything after Breakfast Club (I'll even throw in 16 Candles for free). I believe she studied quite diligently at the Keanu Reeves skool of acktin'.

BONFIRE OF THE VANITIES, or how to ruin an adaptation of a good novel by getting *everything* wrong.

And speaking of ruining good books with bad casting...

SIMON BIRCH. Don't get me wrong, I have on principle nothing against adorable dwarf children, but casting that kid in this shamelessly cloying adaptation of (okay, "inspired by") John Irving's fine novel "A Prayer for Owen Meany" reduced a compelling story into another "so my face looks like a rotten water melon, but my soul is beautiful" MASK-type retread. I don't even mind uplifting "feel good" morality movies (in small, carefully measured doses), but the Irving book probed deeper, more meaningful issues swept under the rug by this tripe. God, that movie sucked! I wanted to pee on the screen when the closing credits rolled. And don't get me started on the saccharine score that telegraphed every fucking emotional moment.

Okay, I can't leave with that hideously disturbing bitter taste in my mouth, so I'll cleanse my palette by mentioning THE VERDICT, my all-time favorite tale of redemption movie penned by your pal and mine, David Mamet. According to movie legend, Robert Redford was originally slated to play protagonist Frank Galvin -- and ordered many rewrites to make the alcoholic ambulance chasing anti-hero more sympathetic. Mamet's version apparently went out the window and new writers were signed on to appease Red's pathological need to play likeable characters. Then Redford dropped out of the project and along came Sidney Lumet and Paul Newman, who rediscovered the Mamet version, thought it was great (duh), and ran with it.

So, sometimes there are happy endings in Hollywood after all.
