Alright, so here it is. First, let me say I am neither friend nor foe of this series. I went to the premiere on Monday (Because I'm SOOOOOO important (insert laugh track here))
Here's the scoop. The movie comes out of the gate well. It's clever and witty, and even pokes fun at itself at times, acknowledging the over-hyped original. It is shot nicely, the acting is more than adequate and the soundtrack moves well. The movie moves well through the first two acts but begins to fall apart near the end, where things become far too confusing, and it drags on longer than necessary. Having the 'unexplained' be the explanation for everything is a cop out. Overall I'd give it a B-. It is scarey at times, does what it's supposed to, but, unfortunately, has a less than satisfying ending. There are far worse movies than this out there.
