Friends, Contestants, Reviewers! The script I've submitted is entitled "Harry's Way". This project IS NOT the big budget picture it may appear to be! Before answering the budget/elements questions on the review please consider this:
"Harry's Way" is based on a true story. It's the story of a grandson who researches his grandfather's bomber crash in WWII. The story is told through a series of interviews and flashbacks that build to the inevitable plane crash. It's a character driven story. The grandson gets to know his grandfather through the research process and through the people he discovers.
I know, I know, WWII? Bomber Crash? How can you make this pic for $1mil? You can shoot this thing with less that sells more. For example, the flashbacks will not be grand throwbacks to the time period (this is not Titanic). Instead, any period elements will be low key, small sets shot tight, (like NYPD Blue). It's the characters that are important. The events can be faked anywhere I can throw up a couple of walls.
The way I'd put this film together lends itself to a low budget; utilizing multi medium formats to fit the aesthetic of what's going on (still photos that come to life, digi video for the present day interviews to give it a docu drama look, 16mm for 1940's, etc) and I'd find the resources for elements of the story in unconventional places. I've thought this production through every step of the way.
I can get this film "in the can" for under a $1mil. So please, if you like the story, when you get to the portion that questions the budget/elements, please give me the benefit of the doubt!
From one independent filmmaker to another (in the spirit of Robert Rodriguez's "El Mariache"), THANK YOU!
