Crew Bio
Name: Ashley
Hometown: Morganton, North Carolina
Occupation: Art Production Assistant

What attracted you to the Entertainment Industry, and what was your first job or big break in the business?
I like working on things that have an end result where you can see your accomplishments. One day I was working as a disgruntled temp when I ran into a producer, who called up a friend and got me on a movie.

What is the biggest challenge you faced trying to break into the industry, and how did you overcome it?
The biggest challenge was getting my manual labor skills to be taken seriously.

What advice can you give those trying to break into the "industry?"
Intern, and do it well.

Please describe your job for those that might not know what an Art Production Assistant is.
Painting, moving furniture, carpentry, shopping, prop finding, truck driving, sewing, sawing, making things look good, or old, or a real part of the characters' lives.

Can you share any tricks of the trade that help you work faster/cheaper/better?
Get plenty of sleep and water.

Please illustrate the way the performance of your position can help or hurt a movie. Name a movie that you've seen (or worked on) that we could view and understand the difference between a good job and a bad job.
When an Art Production Assistant does a poor job, the set or props can look bad, "fake" and/or aesthetically unpleasing.

Are you a writer, and if so, how many screenplays have you written?
I'm a writer, but nothing is in screenplay format...yet.

What's the best lesson you've learned in regards to working in Hollywood?
Wear a gas mask on all painting jobs.

What advice would you give to writers on how to craft a script that addresses practical production issues?
Hmmm...think about your budget while you are writing. Great films can be made on low budgets, but the writing has to fit.

What advice would you give a director on how to make production easier?
Be aware of all departments/jobs.

List your top 5 favorite films
I can't think of five right now, but the last film I saw that I really liked was a Brazilian film called "Pixote."
