What attracted you to the Entertainment Industry, and what was your first job or big break in the business?
Nothing attracted me into the business. I did a favor for my friend/filmmaker Lisa Colangelo on her film "Peace of Work" in January 2000 and here I am.
What is the biggest challenge you faced trying to break into the industry, and how did you overcome it?
The only challenges I've found are maintaining sanity and energy…still trying to overcome those.
What advice can you give those trying to break into the "industry?"
Be sure you know who you are, what you want and what you're doing.
Network, Network, Network
Be honest and respectful
Get a Lobotomy
Please describe your job for those who might not know what a Crafty is.
I provide food, beverages, care and sanctity for the cast and crew. Craft service is The Mother, Maid, Waitress and General Care Provider for everyone...at least, that's what I do.
Can you share any tricks of the trade that help you work faster/cheaper/better?
Have assistants and appreciate them. Be wise when budgeting. Stay calm, cool, collected and positive. Take care of everyone, especially the PA's.
Please illustrate the way that the performance of your position can help or hurt a movie. Name a movie that you've seen (or worked on) that we could view and understand the difference between a good job and a bad job.
If there is no coffee or water no one will work. Nutrition is very important for the "family." I can't say I know any films that illustrate the function of craft service.
Are you a writer, and if so, how many screenplays have you written?
I am a writer - no screenplays as of yet. All I write are grocery lists and budgets.
What's the best lesson you've learned in regards to working in Hollywood?
I won't work in Hollywood unless the salary is ridiculous.
What advice would you give a director on how to make production easier?
Calm and clear communication. Don't let your ego reach the jet stream. Hire confident and positive people.
