What attracted you to the Entertainment Industry, and what was your first job or big break in the business?
My father was President/Executive of Studio Seven, Inc. in Chicago, so I grew up in the Industry. My first job was on the TV show "Crime Story" in 1985.
What is the biggest challenge you faced trying to break into the industry, and how did you overcome it?
Learning all the different skills involved in all the different jobs (i.e. grip, electric). I overcame it by taking every job and just persevering.
What advice can you give those trying to break into the "industry?"
Take any job that you can to learn and just hang in there. Also, ask and listen to those that have experience.
Please describe your job for those who might not know what an Electrician is.
We run all the cable necessary to power all lights needed for the shot and also place all lights in place because we always have a generator to supply our own power.
Can you share any tricks of the trade that help you work faster/cheaper/better?
Stay close to the Best Boy (Head Electrician) and D.P. (Director of Photography) so you can better anticipate any glitches that may arise.
Please illustrate the way the performance of your position can help or hurt a movie. Name a movie that you've seen (or worked on) that we could view and understand the difference between a good job and a bad job.
The faster you lay all the necessary cable, the faster you can set the lights and the happier the director is.
