Crew Bio
Name: Michael
Hometown: Morton Grove, IL
Occupation: Assistant Extras Casting Coordinator

What attracted you to the Entertainment Industry, and what was your first job or big break in the business?
I love the pressures and non-stop action that is always occurring on a set of a movie. "Stolen Summer" is my first job in the business as I am fresh out of college.

What is the biggest challenge you faced trying to break into the industry, and how did you overcome it?
Proving to everyone that I am worthy of my job and future entertainment jobs. It was overcome by hard work as well as observing and learning from everyone around me.

What advice can you give those trying to break into the "industry?"
When you get your big break work your ass off and do everything you are told to do.

Please describe your job for those who might not know what an Assistant Extras Casting Coordinator is.
I help book the talent for any scene that involves extras. On the days of a scene I have booked I work on set helping to coordinate, show the extras around and help around the set in any possible way.

Can you share any tricks of the trade that help you work faster/cheaper/better?
For my job you have to be a talker when booking a scene so you get them to commit. It isn't that hard, but it makes the job a lot easier

Please illustrate the way the performance of your position can help or hurt a movie. Name a movie that you've seen (or worked on) that we could view and understand the difference between a good job and a bad job.
Plain and simple, you cannot make a movie without a background. Casting extras makes the movie look realistic.

Are you a writer, and if so, how many screenplays have you written?
I am a writer, but I have not had the time or patience to actually write my own screenplay.

What advice would you give a director on how to make production easier?
Surround yourself with as best a production staff as possible. It will make production of the movie that much easier.
