Crew Bio
Name: Linda
Hometown: Chicago, IL
Occupation: Script Supervisor

What attracted you to the Entertainment Industry, and what was your first job or big break in the business?
It wasn't my first choice. I'm an artist and I started as an animator.

What is the biggest challenge you faced trying to break into the industry, and how did you overcome it?
Getting people to trust you. Doing the job and doing it well. Help others realize you know your job.

What advice can you give those trying to break into the "industry?"
Work on as much as possible. Learn on student projects. Ask questions. Watch everyone.

Please describe your job for those who might not know what a Script Supervisor is.
I take notes on every shot in the movie. I make sure the actors say their lines, that continuity is constant. I'm backup to other departments such as wardrobe, props, hair and makeup. I'm one of the director's confidants. My notes go to the producers. I am also the on set rep. for the editors to make sure they have what they need and where to find the shots; that is just a brief overview of what I do.

Can you share any tricks of the trade that help you work faster/cheaper/better?
The more you work, the more you learn. It's experience that makes you better. Faster and cheaper may not be better.

Please illustrate the way the performance of your position can help or hurt a movie. Name a movie that you've seen (or worked on) that we could view and understand the difference between a good job and a bad job.
If you've done my job well, the movie will cut together smoothly and easily. If I don't know my camera angles, there maybe a mistake that I don't catch and the scene won't cut together. If I do my job well, I can help other departments function more smoothly.

Are you a writer, and if so, how many screenplays have you written?
No. None.

What's the best lesson you've learned in regards to working in Hollywood?
People look out for themselves. Don't take everything personally. There are lots of wonderful people and not so wonderful people. Learn your job and do it well.

What advice would you give to writers on how to craft a script that addresses practical production issues?
Keep your locations few or to a minimum. Keep your "movie" days to a minimum. Keep your actors to a minimum.

What advice would you give a director on how to make production easier?
Learn about working with actors. Get the best crew you can. The better they are, the more time you can spend with your actors. Prep. Prep. Prep!

List your top 5 favorite films
I don't have a favorite list, but I love the work of many directors: Hitchcock, Kevin Smith, anything by Tex Avery or Chuck Jones, Monty Python, Kurosawa. Lots of films from the PBS series Mystery/Masterpiece theatres.
