What attracted you to the Entertainment Industry, and what was your first job or big break in the business?
It happened by accident while I was designing a website for a production company. I was asked to be a P.A. on a horrible music video. After that, I just started getting calls to work on other projects. I suppose that was my first break, albeit not so big.
What is the biggest challenge you faced trying to break into the industry, and how did you overcome it?
Having the confidence to demand what you really want. I'm still working on that.
What advice can you give those trying to break into the "industry?"
Be persistent, polite fun to be around and find that ever-elusive line between confidence and cockiness.
Please describe your job for those who might not know what a Set Dresser is.
The set dresser simply dresses the set to suit what the director sees in his mind. Easy!
Can you share any tricks of the trade that help you work faster/cheaper/better?
Spend 80% of your concentration on what you're doing this second, 20% on what you need to be doing in the immediate future and don't look back.
Please illustrate the way the performance of your position can help or hurt a movie. Name a movie that you've seen (or worked on) that we could view and understand the difference between a good job and a bad job.
As a Sports Coordinator on the feature "Hard Ball" it was my job to keep up the morale of a group of real little league ball players. They had specific plays they needed to perform, and if they were bored, tired, hungry etc.., their performance would look fake.
Are you a writer, and if so, how many screenplays have you written?
No
What's the best lesson you've learned in regards to working in Hollywood?
You can do anything.
What advice would you give to writers on how to craft a script that addresses practical production issues?
Keep it simple. If the story is good, that will shine through.
What advice would you give a director on how to make production easier?
See above.
