What attracted you to the Entertainment Industry, and what was your first job or big break in the business?
What attracted me to the film industry? The very unique mix of art/business and technology. First job: assistant to the Exec Producer at a company which produced a TV segment year in review tapes of Formula 1 and rally car racing.
What is the biggest challenge you faced trying to break into the industry, and how did you overcome it?
I got lucky. I got all the jobs I applied for.
What advice can you give those trying to break into the "industry?"
Be persistent. If you can't get a paid job, work as an intern, it pays in the long run
Please describe your job for those who might not know what a UPM is.
Administer the production, hire the crew and manage the resources.
Can you share any tricks of the trade that help you work faster/cheaper/better?
Hire the right crew for the job.
What's the best lesson you've learned in regards to working in Hollywood?
I don't work in Hollywood.
What advice would you give to writers on how to craft a script that addresses practical production issues?
Use a limited number of cast members, few locations and maximum usage of natural light i.e. daylight.
What advice would you give a director on how to make production easier?
Planning. Do your homework during pre-production and prepare a realistic shot list.
