Cast Bio
Name: Joey Martinez-McWhorter
Home Town: Elgin, Illinois
Character: Kevin Mouldoon

What attracted you to the Entertainment Industry and what was your first job or big break in the business?
My sister was already involved in commercials etc. I wanted to do it too. My first commercial was for a tupperware/rubbermaid like product called Anchor Hocking Stowaways and I was 4 1/2 years old.

What is the biggest challenge you faced trying to break into the industry and how did you overcome it?
I was with my sister at her audition. The casting agent asked me if I wanted to audition too. She told my mom I did great but I was a little hard to understand. My mom told her I had been seeing a speech therapist for a few months now. A month later, that same casting agent cast me in my first commercial.

What advice can you give those trying to break into the "industry?"
You have to have very dedicated parents and when you're at auditions be yourself and have fun.

Please describe your character in "Stolen Summer" and why you were attracted to the role.
I think my character, Kevin is a pretty fun kid who likes to goof around a lot. We almost didn't go to the audition because it was on a Saturday; a rare occurrence in Chicago. We had to go to my Great Aunt and Uncle's 50th wedding anniversary in Indiana. We swung by Chicago and made it to the audition and then continued on to Indiana. I'm very happy we could fit everything in that day because the party was a lot of fun too.

Can you share any tricks of the trade that help you work better as an actor?
Listen to the director and do it the way he explains it. Be yourself and love what you do.

Are you also a writer and if so, how many screenplays have you written?
I just write stories for school stuff.

What's the best lesson you've learned in regards to working in Hollywood?
We worked in Chicago! Everyone I've met from Hollywood has been hard working, fun and very pleasant.

What advice would you give to writers on how to craft a script that can help actors better understand or relate to their character?
Write a very descriptive breakdown of the cast with looks as well as personalities included.

What advice would you give a director on how to make your job as an actor easier on set?
Be specific as to what you want, be patient, get to know your cast as much as possible.
List your top five favorite films.
- Green Mile
- Rush Hour 2
- Meet the Parents
- Planet of the Apes
- A League of Their Own
