Episode 8 : Paper Trail
Pete's Email to Chris Re: Jeff Balis
Download 104 kb PDF
Pete Jones calls "bullshit" on Chris Moore! You may recall, in Episode 2, Pete Jones saying to Jeff Balis (on the subject of experience in reference to Chris Moore): "He's got it, I don't - but who's right?" Well, in this week's episode, HBO showed us footage of Pete Jones writing an email to Chris Moore about his objection to Jeff being fired. We have published Pete's mission statement here, entitled "you know I need to vent," so that you may dig deeper into the psyche of Pete Jones and find out what he really thinks motivated Chris's decision. We encourage you to read Pete's email and then head over to the message boards to let us know what you think of Pete's theories, and his bravado.

Daily Production Reports for 5/30, 5/31, 6/1
Download 434 kb PDF
One might assume that nothing went wrong on days 9, 10 and 11 of principal photography because there is no footage in the series from any of these days. The only way to be sure, however, is to take a look at the actual documents. Production reports don't lie (read: noisy sets and bad weather).

Daily Production Reports for 6/2, 6/3, 6/6
Download 487 kb PDF
Days 12 (6/2) and 13 (6/3) involved shooting exterior and interior shots on location at the O'Malley household. With only five actors on set and quasi-acceptable weather on at least one of the days, it's not surprising that none of this footage appears to have made it into the show. But never fear... the production report for day 14 (a.k.a. scene 22 - a.k.a. Pete's big action scene) is the third one in this series. Plenty of players, extras and exposed film stock. No, it doesn't make note of Balis's self survival issues or of the power politics happening behind the scenes. Pity.

Script Excerpt: Scene 22. EXT: Rabbi Jacobsen's House
Download 8 kb PDF
According to Pete Jones, "Words are so cheap when you can blow things up." Here it is: the first time director's big action scene in which we witness the Jacobsen household almost burn to the ground and the further development of Joe O'Malley's character as it compares to and contrasts with Rabbi Jacobson's. Read and learn how Pete originally envisioned the big stunt scene in which, ultimately, a mortar cannon shoots off a big fireball and singes Stunt Coordinator Rick LeFevour's eyebrows.

To help ease the pain somewhat, here are some other shot lists from prior days of filming so you can get your fix.

Resume: Director of Photography Pete Biagi

Spotlight on Pete Biagi, the DP originally from Kentucky and the man behind the camera on the set of "Stolen Summer." Who is this cinematographer with the European sensibility and how have his previous projects informed the decisions he makes on Pete Jones's set? Peruse the resume as if you were a first time director and pay special attention to the films, genres, and actors and actresses within which and with whom he has worked.
