Hollywood Coverage
Many Hollywood producers, agents
and executives receive way more screenplays than they could possibly
read in a lifetime. Therefore, sometimes they hand off the overload
to a "Professional Reader" for "Coverage."
What is a "Professional
Reader?"
This term applies to the individual in an agency, studio, or
production company whose only job is to read and evaluate some or
all of the screenplays that have been submitted. Some people actually
make a living as Readers, but others just do it on the side. Readers
can be well-educated types who take it very seriously, but they
can also be your best friend's roommate who sleeps until noon and
loves all the movies you hate. In either case, everyone always has
a different opinion about everything. With greenlight,
YOU are the "Professional Reader" and we need YOUR help
in picking the winner.
What is "Coverage?"
Coverage is usually a
3 to 4 page "book report" that is prepared by the Professional
Reader. The Coverage form is used to help employers decide on which
screenplays they should personally read. The report usually consists
of the title, authors name, a brief synopsis and the readers
personal comments.
In addition, coverage forms
can include: "attachments" (actors, directors or producers
committed to working on the project), the "circa" (the
year or era in which the screenplay takes place), the "Logline"
(a 2 or 3-line description of the plot -- like in your "T.V.
Guide"), and finally, the reader's overall recommendation for
the project (usually "Recommend", "Consider"
or "Pass").
